Industry participants, researchers and financial analysts rely on the availability of good quality data on the size, growth and factors affecting markets. Today little data exists on the revenues for the PC gaming market outside of retail boxed sales in the west. Nor is there reliable data on the installed base of active gamers or the details of the compute devices that they play on. The OGA Research subcommittee has helped to solve these challenges by pooling member data and by using external agencies to assemble data on the computer gaming industry.
Indie Developer Subcommittee
Description: This subcommittee is involved with helping independent game developers by promoting good development practices, helping them develop quality games that meet or beat minimum standards, and to help them launch their game titles into the market. We do this by managing the Indie Developer Program, which is open to any independent developer with a released game or a game in development. Learn more about the Indie Developer Program.
Software Best Practices Subcommittee
The Software Best Practices subcommittee is working to create a best practices document which will be shared with Game Developers as a single recommended set of guidelines from the OGA for Game Development.
The Game Specification and Canon (Set of Guidelines) Subcommittee is focused on an initiative with 2 primary areas of focus. 1) Creating an easier to understand system allowing consumers to identify which games will work on their computers. 2) Creating a more stable, and predictable design specification and target for Developers making computer games. By addressing these two fundamentals, computer games will be easier to develop; and this should also improve the situation for those consumers who may have been intimated or confused by the complexity of computers for various forms of gaming.
Security Best Practices
Piracy of games is a significant problem. This subcommittee is working to define the problem and propose recommendations that reduce piracy without causing consumer backlash that could hurt the gaming market.
The OGA was formed to serve the needs of the computer gaming industry and consumers. The Marketing subcommittee has the objective of ensuring the widest possible participation and understanding of the OGA and its aims.
